More recently, Holmium (Ho) has also become subject to export licensing, and it is expected that magnets containing Gadolinium (Gd) will soon follow. These uncertainties pose a significant risk to supply security – a clear incentive for the industry to switch to HRE-free magnets, i.e., those without heavy rare earth elements.
